Weather: The forecast, and what to do with it.

About this app

Every weather app knows it will rain at four. Very few of them tell you that the gap at eleven is the only dry, breezy stretch you’ll get all week.

Weather reads the forecast and answers the question underneath it. Good windows for hanging laundry out, for a run, for a ride. Not a badge or a score, just the hours that are actually worth using.

The rest is the forecast done properly. Hour by hour for the next 24, day by day across the week, with air quality, UV, pollen, humidity, wind, pressure and how much daylight you have left.

Two things it does that most don’t. It tells you how sure the forecast is, because a settled high-pressure week and an unstable one are not the same prediction even when the icons match. And it puts today against the record, so you know whether this is ordinary weather for the date or something worth remarking on.

Search anywhere, or let it use where you are. It’s quiet, it loads fast, and there’s nothing on screen that isn’t answering a question.

What it does

  • The next 24 hours, hour by hourTemperature, conditions and what’s coming, laid out so you can read the shape of the day in one glance.
  • Seven days aheadHighs, lows and conditions for the week, for the plans that aren’t today.
  • Good windowsThe app looks for the stretches that suit what you’re doing. Dry and breezy for laundry. Cool and clear for a run. Low wind for a ride.
  • How sure the forecast isConfidence shown alongside the numbers, so you can tell a reliable forecast from a guess. Most apps hide this. It’s often the most useful thing on the screen.
  • Against the recordSee how today compares with what’s normal for the date, and how far it sits from the extremes.
  • Air quality and UVCurrent AQI and UV index, next to the forecast rather than buried two screens away.
  • PollenPollen levels for European locations, for the months when that’s the number that matters.
  • DaylightSunrise, sunset and how much usable light is left.
  • The supporting numbersHumidity, wind speed and direction, and pressure, for when you want the detail behind the summary.
  • Anywhere you likeSearch any city in the world, or use your own location. The places you’ve looked at recently are there when you come back.
